CLOSE-UP with Joe Coyle (FOR TEENS)<br>

CLOSE-UP with Joe Coyle (FOR TEENS)

A 6-week intensive on-camera workshop to prepare the teen actor for working on a film or television set. In addition to shooting scenes from original scripts, students will also learn industry ettiquette and terminology such as 'on the day', 'golden time', and 'magic hour'; how a scene is shot; how to complete industry paperwork; and a who's who on the set.

In the final class, students will apply all they've learned as they shoot a commercial or short film script on location with a film crew!

A film and television set is a world unlike any other and Joe Coyle has been there as an extra, stand-in, principal performer, writer, director and producer. In fact you may recognize him from some of his recent commercial appearances: Giant Eagle, Pittsburgh Trib, Roomful Express and Goodyear Tire.  Joe will show you how the rubber meets the road while spicing things up with stories from the sets of not only the big budget shows he worked on (ER, FRIENDS, OCEAN’S 11) but also the low-budget/no-budgets as well.

With all the attention Pittsburgh has been receiving from the major studios and independent production companies, don't get caught unprepared for your CLOSE-UP!

WHO:
-If you are a trained actor between the ages of 13 and 18, and you've ever thought "I wonder what happens when I get the gig?"

WHAT YOU WILL LEARN:
- How a film or television scene is shot - master, overs, close-ups, dolly moves, handheld, steadicam - by recording one in each class...just like "on the day" (production term for "when we are shooting").
- The most important thing to remember when going into an audition (besides the lines)
- How a scene is shot - master, coverage, push-ins, dolly moves, hand held, steadicam.
- How the theatre training you have can work for and against you.
- What to do when the Second 2nd (who is that?) tells you to "sign the G" (huh?)
- Terminology - such as what is the difference between 'golden time' and 'magic hour,' and One-Hour Episodic TV and Multi-Camera shows.
- Paperwork - call sheet, boards, start work papers, voucher, sides, storyboards, etc. What to sign and why.
- Crew positions and why you should learn to love the First AC and Second Team as  much as the Best Boy and Crafty and the difference between a DP and the AD.

THINGS YOU WILL GET:

- Chance to read TV, film, and commercial scripts each week on camera.
- Playback and critique of your performance.
- Visits from writers, directors, producers, and/or crew members who have worked with Joe; and Donna Belajac will attend one of the classes.
- An edited version of your scene on DVD (for a nominal fee).

WHEN:
- SATURDAYS, SEPTEMBER 25 - OCTOBER 30, 2010
